We hadn't seen Imogen and Mark since 2005, when we flew in from Venice only hours after becoming engaged. Many things have changed since then, but friendships don't. To have a low-key weekend with friends rather than trying to do some madcap tourist visit was wonderful.
Soon to be a mother, Imo generously jockeyed us down the motorways to Bray where we dined at the Hind's Head. This is Heston Blumenthal's pub, within a feeble throw from Fat Duck, his flagship. We thought we were going to eat there, but couldn't get a reservation (whole 'nother story, that). Food was spot-on, not to fussy or elaborate. Service a touch on the chaotic side. Bottom line: high quality fare of the gastro-pub variety. Recommended.
Other food highlights include the duck tongues that we had at yumcha - perhaps not something we'll have often again, but a fair example of how the food in England has surprised us. Of course, no English summer could be complete without Pimm's and lemonade!
It can't go unremarked that Mark & Imo live in a Home Of Cats. George and Henry were welcoming friends to we who are missing our own cats so much.
